Tuesday - on to Dresden and Prague

Today we travel from Leipzig to Dresden and on to Prague. We end our day on a riverboat where we have some fun and a meal.

We had to get up earlier than usual to get ready to leave on our tour - this time leaving Leipzig, and moving on the the next country (Czech Republic) with a stop along the way in Dresden.

When I got to the bus I got some good news. My lost hat and glasses were found on the bus. That was a really great start for the day. Everyone was in a good mood. We were sorry to be leaving Leipzig, but better rested and looking forward to the experience at Frauenkirche, and the start of the adventure in Prague.

The tour of Frauenkirche was very interesting. We got a good look and were very impressed with the work that had been done in restoring and re-building this beautiful structure that had been so badly damaged in 1945. At 11:30 am we sang 2 pieces in that church -Locus Iste and Wie Lieblich sind deine Wohnungen - the music composed by our own Zach Windus. This time we had a decent sized audience, and were well received. Everyone felt good about it.

After this 'high' we each went our own way exploring various aspects of the city called the Florence on the Elbe. For a while Elfrieda and I explored the centre of the city with Mike and Mary-Catharine Hancock. This include a look at a display of the famous Meissen porcelain. Later Elfrieda and I went to check out the beauties of the large Catholic Church nearby. At 2 PM we left for Prague. Our touring and singing in Germany is now over, as we move on to Prague.

We arrived in Prague in the afternoon after passing through countryside covered in snow - clearly a higher elevation. After going through some small mountain tunnels, and made a short stop at a service centre, we finally reached the golden city which had been the head of empires in the past. It was hard to tell that we had even changed countries, in that we did not have to stop for someone to question us and check our papers. Europe really is working. It wasn't until we reached our hotel that we felt we were in another land. Everyone was asked to hand in their passports on checking into the hotel, as we were told they would get them back in 2 hours or so. That was a surprise, and decidedly uncomfortable to say the least. We now have our passports back and all is well. I'm still not happy. Was this a left over practise from the cold war days?

In the evening we left by bus for a boat tour and dinner on the Vlatava River. This whole experience was more that enjoyable. The food was good, and so was the live entertainment. Elfrieda and I had a chance to chat with Bob and Anne. It sure looked like people were having good fun and letting loose.

Back at the hotel we talked over the plans for tomorrow. It will be a very busy day that includes lots of activites, and we are hoping that it will not be too hectic. It includes our second concert. This time we are on our own with no partner choir to share the time.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Best wishes for a successful concert and a big hello and a virtual hug to my mom, Thelma. Sounds like you're all soaking up a lot of yummy Euro culture - not to mention eating some too! Love your earlier comment about the cafe certainly not being Tim Hortons - laughed out loud.
