Singing with Joy in the Frauenkirche....

The 5:30 a.m. wake-up call seemed to come very soon after the late dinner and the packing the evening before. Returning from Eisenach on Monday afternoon had turned into a bit of an adventure. After taking the wrong turn, the driver could not get the double-decker bus under an underpass - so we drove this way and that in the dark countryside, till we found our way back to the autobahn and Leipzig! As a result, dinner was late, and packing was done around midnight.

On top of that, David was missing his cap and his good pair of glasses! Where could he have left them?

So neither of us felt very bright and bushy-tailed this morning at breakfast! In fact, the lost glasses were making David quite gloomy. Imagine my surprise then when, getting on the bus, Lou and Rob Knechtel handed me the glasses, in the case, and pointed out David's hat on the seat. Somehow they had ended up under the seat! Whew!!!

All bags were down by 7:10 and by 7:30 a.m. we were on the way to Dresden. In a brief two hours we could see the dome of the Frauenkirche. The bus parked under a bridge near the river. Boy was it cold! We followed our tour guide, Christine, over to the entrance of the Frauenkirche for our guided tour of the wonderfully rebuilt Church!

After the tour, we were able to prepare to sing in this wonderful church. Moments before people started streaming in, so we had a good audience. We sang Locus Iste by Brückner and Wie Lieblich sind deine Wohnungen - music composed by chorister Zachary Windus. Both of these are done without accompaniment, and the sound resonated beautifully. We received a very good response from the audience of tourists and others who may have come for the service.

What an experience!
