March 11: Merseburg on the Salle River

On the way back to Leipzig we took a detour to Merseburg, on the Salle River. Merseburg is part of the Halle Region, just north of Leipzig.
Here's a map of the area - you can see that Merseburg is just south of Halle. The Halle Region is part of Sachsen-Anhalt (a province of Germany; the call it a 'Land'). Leipzig, while close to Halle is in Sachsen (Saxony); Leipzig has a populationof about 500,000. Halle is not as big as Leipzig.

This quadrangle reminded me of Oxford.
Inside was an entrance to a Music School. While walking around, we heard music. As we stood there, a few children came out.

Just through this arch we found an interesting Cafe.

Elfrieda checks out the Kuchen with the owner/manager. She had been to Ottawa.

We are waiting for our order to be brought to us. Cousin Gerhard took this picture.

Gerhard looks around this wonderful setting. It's certainly not Tim Hortons.

On the way out, Elfrieda and Gerhard pause for a photo.
