Pictures - first full day in Germany March 14

Our Grand River Chorus tour group was divided into 2. Here's the group we were in in front of our hotel - waiting for our guide, Sophie.

Here we are in front of the Opern Haus. Sophie is explaining the history of Augustus Square - between the Opern haus and the Gewandhaus.

Sophie shows us a news clipping about the 1989 'peaceful revolution' that brought about the end of communism in East Germany.

This is in remembrance of all those who were there to be counted on that day. The plaque shows footsteps of all kinds.

The merchants houses are now exclusive shopping areas.

The statue recognizes Johann Wolfgang Goethe and his involvement in university in Leipzig.

Murray Charters makes a wish on the golded shoe of Faust.

Our tour guide tells us all about the old city hall seen in the background.

We end our tour at St Thomas Kirche where we performed for the first time in Europe. J. S. Bach spent 27 years here as concert master. It was an emotional experience for all of us, especially Richard.
